I voted

I voted today. How about you?

When I’d discovered my new voting precinct was 1.5 miles from home I thought, “What a great way to work in a 3-mile round-trip training (raining) run.”  So I threw on my running attire, photo ID included, and was on my way. Despite the wet weather, I passed a few cheerful sign bearers waving, promoting their candidates and heard cars honking to them. This reminded me that voting is one of the greatest privileges we have living in our democracy.

Arriving at the ballot box just before closing, I was noticeably huffing and puffing and dripping from both rain and sweat. I may have smudged the ballot, voting in both gubernatorial candidates—oops. I was in a hurry since I didn’t want to cool down halfway through my run; so good thing the line was short and I was mentally prepared with my selections.

The return 1.5-mile stint seemed faster. I could tell my energy level was greater. Perhaps because I know my opinion counted.

Friends, never underestimate your single vote.
