Bring your blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy an evening of heart-warming music under the stars. This wonderful performance is made possible by a generous grant from the Charlotte Julia Hollander Trust. The event is free and open to the public.

In observance of Good Friday the Polasek Museum will be open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to come and view the many liturgical works created by Albin Polasek including “The Victorious Christ” and “The Stations of the Cross.” Visitors will also have the opportunity to find 20 hidden traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs, or pysanky, in the historic home.

Presented by the City of Winter Park, this fun-filled event will provide as much excitement and laughs for adults as it will for youngsters. Children up to 10 years of age can begin lining up at 9:30 a.m. The hunt will begin promptly at 10 a.m. Children with special needs are also encouraged to join in the fun. Over 10,000 eggs will be placed throughout Central Park. As always, children who come up empty handed will still be able to enjoy special treats at the designated candy area.

For this week-long celebration, a selected group of the finest plein air artists will capture the landscapes and landmarks of Winter Park and Orlando with oils, watercolors and pastels painted outdoors with the subject directly in view, rather than in a studio. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the works generated during this week benefit the Albin Polasek Museum. The Polasek’s wet-room gallery and gardens will be open free for visitors Sunday through Friday the week of the Paint Out. There will be special events throughout the week, and free painting demonstrations Monday through Friday. The Garden Party will be held on Saturday and is a special ticketed event.

In honor of National Arbor Day, the Parks & Recreation Department of the City of Winter Park will proudly host the 22nd annual Jeannette Genius McKean 5K Memorial Run for the Trees. This exciting 5K (3.1 miles) run/walk will begin at Showalter Field, located at 2525 Cady Way, and finish on beautiful Genius Drive which is open to the public only once a year for this magnificent event. Funds raised from the event will support the Winter Park Tree Replacement Fund. Each “Run for the Trees” race participant will receive a commemorative T-shirt as well as a young tree to plant at a location of their choice. This is a collaboration between Crealdé School of Art and the Winter Park Historical Association. The purpose of this project is to portray the Winter Park Business community of 2013 for a contemporary exhibition and a valuable historic record for future generations. As a reflection of contemporary culture, a cross-section of businesses were selected for this documentary. Twelve advanced Crealdé students, under the direction of professional documentary photographers Peter Schreyer and Sherri Bunye, photographed 28 businesses, chosen based on their value as historic architecture or long-term presence in the community. The exhibition will feature both interior and exterior images, night photographs, merchandise and environmental portraits. After the closing of the exhibit, the Winter Park Historical Association will include the work as part of their permanent archive. Opening reception and gallery talk, Friday, July 18, 7 to 9 p.m.

The Polasek Museum is pleased to present a joint exhibition by botanical artists, Carolyn Cohen and Redenta Soprano. Early scientific illustrators strove to realistically document plant species. Drawing from this tradition and a lifetime of field observation, Cohen and Soprano’s art is based upon those principles, each with a singularly contemporary approach.
